A new chapter for America. A New Chapter for the Human Condition.
45 years ago, on this very day, a young African American preacher stood on the front steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and issued 4 of the most powerful words this nation has ever heard. 4 words, that have echoed down through the pages of history, transcended time, place, and race. 4 words that have been ringing in the ears, minds, and hearts of every American man, woman, and child. 45 years ago, millions of Americans, from every walk of life, be they rich or poor, black or white, male for female, allowed themselves to hope, allowed themselves to dream...allowed themselves to believe in change.
I have a dream.
4 words that united a nation. 4 words that brought hope to millions of blacks around the nation who had been suffering under the racial injustices of their white neighbors for years. 4 simple words that came as a breath of fresh air in a stagnant nation filled with hatred. 4 simple words that brought about the single greatest shift in civil rights this nation has ever seen.
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, a dream that was shared by countless Americans. He had a dream that his four little children would one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
Friends, brothers and sisters, my fellow Americans...today, and over the past year and a half, we have witnessed the realization of one dream, and the budding of another.
Dr. King's dream has been realized and personified by a young senator from Illinois, and by the actions of this great nation. Today, we begin a new chapter, not only in American history...but in our human condition as well. For the first time, in the history of our great nation, a major party has nominated an African American for the Presidency of the United States of America. For the first time in the history of our great nation, there is a chance that the job that was once believed to be reserved for rich, white men...might now be filled by a man of color. Truly an epic sight to behold, America. How far we have come from the racial injustices, the bigotry, the intolerance and prejudice, the ignorance of our fathers before us. That alone is reason to stand and applaud, reason to take heart and believe that we truly can change the world we are living in. In 45 years, look at how far we have journeyed together, to bring about this unprecedented change on both the American political system, and the American psyche. We have stood on principle, and judged the Senator from Illinois, not by the color of his skin. We have allowed the racial injustice, the intolerance of years past to fall away, to not cloud our vision. We have allowed ourselves to judge the person standing before us on the principle of his words, on the actions he has taken in his life, by the character he adheres himself to.
Friends, over the past year and a half, as a nation we have taken a close study of this man, of his principles, of his actions, and of his character. This week, this very night, we have spoken with one voice. We have stood together and said race is no longer an issue. We have stood together and said that dreams can come true. We have stood together...and dared to believe in hope once more. We have brought Dr. King's dream to life.
45 yeas later, on this very night, a young African American politician stood behind a podium in Denver, Colorado and brought those 4 words to life...while adding 3 of his own. 3 words, that have echoed around packed amphitheaters and concert halls, fitting the time, fitting the place. 3 words that have been ringing in the ears, minds, and hearts of countless American men, women, and children. 45 years later, millions of Americans, from every walk of life, be they rich or poor, black or white, male or female, are allowing themselves to hope once more, allowing themselves to dream again...allowing themselves to believe in change.
Yes we can.
Three simple words that over the past year and a half have brought so many people together. Three simple words that have given hope to so many who have been broken by the past 8 years of the Bush rule. Three simple words that came as a breath of fresh air to the middle class. Three simple words...that have brought about the single greatest shift in American politics and the human psyche that this simple boy of 20 has ever witnessed.
Barack Obama has a dream for America...a dream that is shared by countless Americans. We dream of an America where working mothers and fathers are able to provide for their families once more. We dream of an America where every child, regardless of social class or race is able to afford the same educational opportunities as the next. We dream of an America where we once more rely on diplomacy before placing our sons and daughters in the line of fire. We believe in an America where the people do not need to fear their government. We believe in an America where the government, that was and still is elected by the people, will finally start working for the people. We believe in an America that is for "We the People" not "We the privileged few."
We stand, in this moment, hand in hand with Senator Obama, looking towards the future, united in one cause, believing that we can bring about the change we so desperately seek. Our dream is well within our grasps. Come November, we will be asked once more to stand behind Senator Obama, to place our hopes and our dreams in his hands, and elect him to office. For the first time in years, millions of Americans feel confident in making that decision. For the first time in years, the hopes and dreams countless Americans have had, the visions of their nation being great once more, are shared and embraced by a politician they feel they can trust. For the first time in years...Americans are able to believe in their dreams...able to hope.
My friends, we are agents of change. We have brought about what is arguably the greatest shift in the American Human condition, let alone the political structure since the civil rights movement of Dr. King's era. Years from now, your children and mine will sit in a classroom and learn about a man who became the first African American nominated by a major party to run for President. Let us not give up the fight now. Let us continue to push our dreams forward. Let us continue to believe in hope. Let us ensure that our children will learn about the 44th President of the United States, the first African American to hold the position, Barack Obama.
America, We Have a Dream. And Yes, We can.

Change you can Believe in...Change you can See
4 hours after what could possible be the final democratic debate...we find ourselves in the same situation we were in 4 hours before it. Brack Obama stands tall, unshaken, while Hilary Clinton stammers and studders for a clear message on which to stand.
From the get go, it was clear which Clinton had shown up at the debate. The combative, dirty tactic Hilary. The Clinton, that had no clear definitions for any of her plans. The Clinton, who had no answer to the questions posed of her. The Clinton who round-a-bouted several clear, pointed questions from both Senator Obama and the moderators. Instead, Clinton was more content badgering Obama, attempting to drive home points that Obama systematically refuted, while still remaining out of the combat zone that Clinton direly wanted to draw him into.
It began with Health care. Clinton opened, saying little about her plan, only saying that Obama's was faulty, that it would leave millions out in the cold, without a plan. Obama retorted, saying that his plan was not flawed, defended his major points, discredited Clinton's facts (By using a quote from her Husbands ex-head of Labor), then asked Clinton to give examples how her plan was superior. How did Clinton respond? Did she defend her point?
No. She launched into Obama again. Repeating her earlier charges, which Obama and defended and refuted, then proceeded to talk until the moderators suggested the candidates move on. During that time, Obama attempted to chime in at pauses, but Clinton would not allow it. She ran right over Obama, shouting at times to keep her voice heard. Near the end of her tirade, Obama said, with his hands raised in the air,
"Brain (Williams, the moderator), I'm being Filibustered."
For those of you who don't know, the Filibuster is a tactic used in the American Senate and Congress. It occurs when a member of the House wishes to kill a legislative movement, before the house or committee members have a chance to vote on it. How it is done...is a member of congress will take the podium...and never yield the floor back to the chairman, or any other member present at the hearing. They will talk, about everything and nothing, for as long as is necessary, until the bill or action is killed. In last night's debate, Clinton attempted to Filibuster Obama on the issue of health care. She attempted to make sure that her voice was the last one filling the room on the topic. Luckily for Obama, and for the American People, Brain Williams allowed Mr. Obama a brief response period.
As Obama finished, Tim Russert, the moderator opposite Williams, began his next question...and found himself in a shouting match with Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Clinton would not back down, she would stop it nothing to get her word in about health care one more time. Russert attempted to fight it, but eventually yielded. Did Clinton have anything new to say? No. More scathing remarks about how Obama's plan was incorrect. She even went as far as to say that Obama was not being true to the democratic party, because he did not believe in universal health care, claiming his plan was not actually focused on providing cheap and effective health care to the masses.
Never once did she focus on her plan. Never once did she answer a question pointed at her about her plan. She was relentless in her assault of Mr. Obama, who easily brushed off her remarks...and ignored the invitation to fight.
The debate continued in much the same fashion. Rarely did Mrs. Clinton answer a question directly. She continually got into shouting matches with the moderators (something which Tim Russert would have nothing of). In a sense, this felt more like a school yard fight than a debate for the Presidency.
A point that a friend of mine recently brought up, and something that has been on my mind as of late, and became more evident as I watched Clinton shout over the other members of the debate tonight...is simply this. She went from the strongest Democratic candidate, in a field of talented candidates...to a neck and neck race with Senator Obama. Something happened along the way in the Clinton camp. As the walls began to close in, as the gap between her and her closest competitor slowly began to close...her campaign shifted. Her message changed. She went from strong, confident Presidential Candidate to a mixed-message, confused, bully. Her actions over the past few weeks have caused me to raise one, simple question.
If she reacts to something as unexpected as Barak Obama in this fashion, if she looses sight of her goals, if she looses her message against something as small as an opponent for the Presidency...what would happen when she becomes President, and something arises nationally that she did not expect? Would she react the same way? Would she lose her composure? Would she lose sight of her goals? Her message? Would she be able to unite the American People together...or force us apart, much like she is doing to her own party? It is a legitimate fear, legitimate question...a question made more so valid by the way her opponent has handled her attacks and criticism.
Obama has remained stawart in the face of Clinton's vicious assault. He has stayed on message, ignored her calls for conflict, ignored the claims of inexperience...in essence, he has demonstrated his ability to weather some of the attacks he will receive as President. He has show that he will not be forced to stray from the path in front of him. He will not be deterred from his goals, that he will not let anything cloud his visions of what he sees in store for America. Obama, in these past few weeks, has given a glimpse as to how he would react to attacks on the Presidency...and possible, on a larger scale, an attack on America and her People. Stoic. Rock Solid. Unmovable.
And, perhaps most important of all...Obama has remained above the political fray.
Not many remember, but at the onset of Obama's Campaign for the Presidency of the United States, he made a promise. A promise to stay above the political infighting, to refrain from the dirty tactics that most politicians employ during their campaigns. Let me ask you this, then.
How many attack ads have you seen launched from the Obama Campaign? How many attacks on a candidates character has Mr. Obama launched? How many times has he gotten off message to assault an opposing candidate?
None.
In the recent weeks and months, the Clinton campaign has been heard complaining that the American Media is unfairly shedding a negative light on her, that they are only covering her pitfalls, and not those of Obama. There is a simple answer to why. He has given them nothing to report. No negative actions. No slanderous acts. He has truly run a clean, noble and honorable campaign.
Change you can believe in. Change in Washington. Change in the American Political Structure. All slogans, all promises of the Obama camp. Analysts aroung the nation, as well as Senator Clinton, have questioned this. They have questioned whether or not Barak Obama will be able to put actions to words, if he will be able to truly shift the American Political structure...or if its all simply that; talk.
My friends...these past few months...it is Change we are Seeing.
For years, in countless races before this current one, it has been nearly common practice to engage in dirty politics, to slander your opponents, to drag them through the mud with attack ads, with negative rhetoric. For the past year...we have seen none of this from Obama. We have seen no dirty tactics. Even when his character is being called into question...when his opponents are all but begging him to step into the ring with them...he has risen above, stayed clear of the political mire and sludge that is a dirty campaign. This has all come, not from a distant third party candidate...but from a Front-running, major national party's candidate. We are witnessing a shift in the American Political structure right now. Obama has reshaped the way a candidate campaigns for office.
It is in this moment, seeing the change that Obama has already brought to the political structure of America, that the voters allow themselves that little glimmer of hope they see in Obama to shine a little brighter. The hope for true change, the hope for Washington Politics to finally revert to a political structure by the people, for the people. To long, it has been a structure built by big money, ruled by special interest. In Obama...the American voter sees a chance at a future that is different than the present and past we have been forced to live through. In Obama...the American voter hears the change he speaks of, the hope he promises...and allows themselves to believe. His actions over the past year, through these past few weeks...have brought that belief more credence, made the light of hope burn that much brighter. Change you can believe in. Change, we are seeing. Yes we can, America. Yes. We. Can.

Hitler and Saddam?
This was written a few days ago, the quote are not as current as they appear to be lol
"President Bush on Thursday predicted victory in the war on terror at a time of increasing public anxiety at home, likening the struggle against Islamic fundamentalism with the fight against Nazis and communists."
Thats a quote taken from an article that was posted on MSNBC.com earlier today. I read those lines there...and couldnt help but shake my head. The Bush government obviously has alot to learn about Islamic Fundamentalism...as well as Nazi's and Communists.
How can you compaire the three? Thats like compairing apples to oranges to bananas. Its rediculous. Yes, the three of them are oppressive ideals and against the american way. Good work Bush. But in most cases...Nazi and Communists governments have a single leader, or leaders, whom without the government structure would fail. For proof, please note WWII and Russian history. Hitler died, the Nazi war machine was crushed, Germany became a democracy, the threat to America was neutralized. Stalin died, the Russian People begin to realize that Communism does not work, hold democratic elections, and are no longer a threat to America. Islamic Fundamentalism...has no set leader. It has no set war machine, it has no set oppressed people....What does Bush plan to do?
How can you destroy, or even fight, and Ideal? A religion?! You can not, nor can you hope to. There is no way. Sure, people will say "If we capture Osama Bin Laden, we win!" If you honestly believe that....you are ignorant beyond all belief. You have killed a man. He will be replaced by two more men, probably far worse than himself, who will carry on his mission. There is no way you can ever hope to win against someting like this, when you cant even grasp a feasable victory plan. Look at Iraq right now. We captured Saddam, we installed a democracy...and yet there are still insurgants, who are fighter harder and harder each day, killing more and more.
"A series of attacks killed at least 51 people across Iraq Thursday, including 43 within a half hour in a Shiite section of Baghdad, officials said. Scores were wounded in the attacks, part of a violent week that has seen hundreds slain."
Taken from another story on MSNBC.com. We took out their leader...why havent they stopped fighting? Because they weren't following Saddam, they were following an ideal, a religious belief, that the American Infidel should not be impossing himself and his beliefs onto other people. So they fight, and kill, in the name of this ideal. An ideal, which the American Military, in all of its might and power, will never be able to touch in a thousand years. If we arfe going to accomplish what Bush wants, what he sees as a victory in this "War On Terror", then we will need to destroy and ideal...which in the entire history of the world has never been done.
So, Mr. Preisdent, I wish you luck in your endevor. The only thing you will accomplish in your campaign is american casualities, because this war...will never end.

Oh American Media, Where Art Thou Now?
Lol figured i'd try this here xanga thing out with my latest thoughts on current world issues. Enjoy.
Before i start my latest rant, i want to share a few question with you that i have been pondering lately.
How many Americans know what the G8 Summit is?
How many Americans know what happens at the G8?
How many Americans actually care, and how many pretend to care?
And so it begins
I was watching the news this past week, following the developments at the latest G8 summit. Yes, there was yet another. For those of you who dont know what it is, this is a meeting of the 8 most economically powerful nations in the world, where to leaders of those nations discuss world issues and ways to solve them. It is held every two years in differing locations. Two years ago, it was in Scotland, this year it was in Russia.
Now, I'm sure you all knew about the G8 summit two years ago, how could you not. It recieved national, live, simulcast television coverage, in prime time, on almost every major station. Or wait. That wasnt the Summit, no no no. That was the American Pop Culture's Live 8 concerts. You all rememebr those. 10 concerts, played at the same time, in 10 different countries, broadcast around the world, all to draw attention to the Debts in Africa. Millions upon Millions tuned in to show their support of Bono and Sting, Will Smith and Green Day. Millions watched as these celebrities pushed for the African Debts to be abolished. Millions of voices cried out in Unison that day, saying "We Love our American Pop Culture!". Africa was forgotten that day. Dont get me wrong, the leaders at the G8 summit heard Bono's cry, and abolished the debt, but did that decision get any national air time? No. It was a 5 second mention at the end of a newscast. America could have cared less about the outcome of that event, they wanted to watch their favorite bands prefrom live from the comfort of their homes. And what of the celebrities? Did they truly care? Oh, im sure, deep down in side, there was a part of them that actually did want Africa to be free, but the bigger part of them wanted a career boost. Come on, Nation live TV coverage, of you saying you are against Poverty? Who would turn that down!? The public would love you!!
And we did. We watched with the rest of the world. Did anyone see the results? Has anyone cared to pay attention now, after the fact? Did Bono tell you that the $75 Billion dollars that is being sent to Africa is going to do absolutly nothing, just like it had the time before? And the time before that? Why do you think they were in debt in the frist place? We loaned them money to help them form a stable national economy. The money went into the hands of their oppressive Governments, and was swindled away. All the 2004 G8/Live 8 did was line those governments pockets with more cash, more money to fund their private wars, their civil wars. More money to kill the innocents. Where is the American Pop Culture now? Where is the caring American now? Where do you draw the line between actually caring and not giving a damn?
How many Americans knew there was a G8 every two years? Few. How many knew it was this year? Even less. How many knew the topics that were being discussed? You could probably count them on one finger. This is a meeting of the 8 most powerful nations in the world, with leaders whose decisions will impact your daily life, and the lifes of your peers, and your future children. And no one seems to care, unless the information is handed to them in bright shiny lights with a "Save the Something or Other with Will Smith" campaign slogan.
It saddens me, it really does, that Americans complain about how much the world hates us, and yet the majority of us do nothing to change tham image. We just bitch. We dont get out and pay attention to local elections, the grassroots of modern politics. We dont pay attention to the biggest meeting of the worlds super powers, we just dont give a rats ass. A wise man once said that you must be the change you wish to see in the world. We complain daily about whats wrong in the world today, and yet we dont even pay attention to the meetings of the ment who are attempting to solve these problems? Honestly.
Back to africa for a second.
For all the killings in Africa, for all the hundreds that die, i'd say about 2 americans notice, and actually do something. Actively do something about it. Yes, rally's and protests are good, but what do they accomplish? Nothing. You get a 5 second spot on local news, and the president may glance outside of his window at you. Congratulations. What should really be done, is not sending aid, but sending yourself. Volunteer. That is the hands on work that Africa truly needs. People like Harmony Cronin. She dropped out of her second semester Senior year to start saving up for a volunteer trip to northern africa, where she will do nothing but help the people. Building houses, digging wells, trenches, plowing a field, etc. etc. whatever she can do to help. That is actually getting involved, that is actually caring. She got up off of her couch, turned off Bono and the Live 8, and made a plan, to activley help in a peaceful way. Props.
So, i guess the whole point of this, is that, plain and simple, american just dont care. We bitch and moan about what is going on in the world, and what is wrong with this and that...but then we do nothing. We go back to our daily lives, not caring, still complaining. If you want something to change, start paying attention to things, start getting actively involved. I'm sure that if President Bush heard the voices of Millions of Well Informed Americans, not americans who are fed what they see off the tv and from pop stars, he would actually listen, and change would follow.
